Blog Post of the Day:
What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

For Thanksgiving I am not really going to do much. I will go over to my grandma's house and have lunch there with her. Later I will go home and probably eat dinner with our friends. Wednesday I will go driving for about an hour in my drivers ed class. Saturday is my friends birthday party, it is being celebrated by bubble soccer! Which is awesome because I have always wanted to try that. Sunday is my birthday, so I will probably just hang out and play/do some of my new stuff. I also have a soccer game that day and I will end up play one half of my soccer team with the other half of my soccer team (the indoor teams are really small so we split it half and half, we will end up playing each other that day). That is how my Thanksgiving weekend will go.

Tell me about your experience with taking your stop-motion photos. What problems did you run in to? What did you find difficult about the process? What would you go back and change about HOW you took the photos? Explain yourself.

We had a pretty easy time making our stop-motion photos. One of my biggest problems is that somebody smushed and destroyed my marshmallows. My partner and another partner also ate 50% of the marshmallows that I had so.... I have got to finish mine up on something different

Blog Post of the Day:

What is your idea? How is your idea innovative and creative? How are you going to execute your idea?

I'm going to have marshmallows just move around, maybe have them spell out different things, stuff like that. It is creative because I'm pretty sure that nobody else is doing this idea or even thought about it in the class. I haven't really seen a video of people doing this yet. I'm going to get a lot of marshmallows and toothpicks to help them stay up. I could also have them fighting back and forth. Also, Happy Veteran's Day everybody. Also, happy halo the master chief collection release day.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain.

Stop motion is a type of way to film/take pictures of items. You take a picture of something, then change it ever so slightly and take another picture. Then later you take all the pictures and make them transition from one photo to the next very quickly so that it seems like it's at regular speed.

5 frame story-the transition of my siblings going to bed after watching TV at night

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your idea for your 5 frame story board. What is the plot? How do you plan to make the story creative? Who's the main character? What is the beginning, middle and end? Tell me about your plan of attack.

My five frame story board is pretty simple. It is about the transition of my siblings from watching a show then heading up to bed. My siblings are the main characters. It starts off with my Mom telling them it is time to go to bed. The middle is them whining. The end is me "carrying" them up the stairs. I already took the pictures.

Yesterday you edited and uploaded photos to your blog. Tell me more about your photos. HOW did you edit them? Why did you choose the photos that you did? Explain your assignment.

I edited them on photoshop.com. I chose them because I thought they were good or they had me in them. My assignment was to edited pictures and just try to change the overall look of them.

Blog Post of the Day:
What do you know about photography and/or photo editing? Do you take photos? How do you take photos? Do you edit photos before posting them on social media? How do you edit them? Explain any background or knowledge you have about photography and photo editing. Do you like it? Do you have any interest?

I know a pretty fair amount about photography and photo-shopping. I am a pretty good photographer, it's always been a pretty easy thing for me. My mom is a VERY good photographer. She has been one all my life. The stuff I know about photo-shop is all from watching her edit the pictures that she takes for people. In fact, she was took the "homecoming Queen's" senior pictures. I know that there are tools at the top that help you do what you are trying to do. I know that there are many things that you can do with photo-shop. I do like it, but I don't really care to learn about it.

Tell me about your weekend. Share pics!

This weekend I really didn't do too much, because of my concussion. Friday my Mema was in town from Tulsa, so I spent time with her Friday. Saturday morning she left. My sisters each had a game that day, so I just babysat my brother and played with him. On Friday I also went back to the doctors to see if I was cleared, but it was still pretty bad. I did get cleared to do ten minutes of exercise a day. So Saturday and Sunday I went running. That's not much time to go running so I have to go pretty hard while I'm running. Sunday was kind of the same thing Saturday except for I ended up watching a show with my family at the end of the day. The show we watched is called Once Upon A Time. It's a very good show that anybody can relate to, is funny to people of all ages, and is appropriate for people of all ages (in my opinion). It takes you back to your childhood stories and dreams! It's got a little bit of every genre in it from action to horror to sci-fi, ect...

Below is a letter written to the editor who wrote the article 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect' that your blogged about last week. Most of you wrote on your blog that you agreed with the writer. What are your thoughts after reading the letter below and seeing a different perspective. Are they the same? Are the different? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

It kind of goes along with what I replied in the post of about the article. I believe in some parts of the dress code, and others I don't. I believe that what girls wear to school a fair amount of days is too small and you do have to be held to a higher standard.

The perfect curriculum would be one that prepares you for life. The titles of the courses would be
-Science/Biology
-Social Studies
-Virtues
-Work ethic/perseverance
-Intelligence
-Survival Strategies
-Combat Skills
In each class you would spend time focusing on the information for each title of the class, how it can better you, and how to use the information presented. It would be more survival oriented.

The following article was in the September issue of The Tiger Print. Read the article (even if you already have) and respond to it below. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Consider all perspectives of the article while you respond.
I agree to this article in some ways and also disagree in others. I understand the point of view that they need to wear longer/bigger clothes. I have two younger sisters, so I can understand that sometimes what girls wear is excessively small and they need to wear something longer. Such as the girls who wear so short of pants that her butt cheek is actually hanging out. But I can also see it as why do we have the spaghetti strap rule. I don't really see how that is distracting. Also, They shouldn't be banned just because it distracts guys in class. I'm very old fashioned and believe that the guys need to respect the girls more than what they do by getting "distracted" by their clothes and body. I believe in some parts of the school dress code, but not all, and some parts of the argument that the girls should get to wear what they want. I guess I'm a neutral party. What do you think?

Tell me about your weekend! If you don't have anything fun to share, tell me about the city you live in. What do you love about Kansas City? Do you have a favorite place in the city? Favorite team? :) Favorite event? Explain.

This weekend my Mom was out of town, which has rarely ever happened, so I had to help watch my siblings this weekend. Friday my Dad had a soccer game so me and my siblings watched a movie together. then on Saturday I had a tiny bit of babysitting and mostly just played my new video game, Destiny. Saturday night I watched the new Captain America with my Dad. Sunday I babysat while my Dad ran errands. I played a bit of Destiny, I went to my siblings soccer games, and watched the rest of a Sherlock.

What is an infographic? If you don't know, go look it up. Read about it and then in your own words tell me what an infographic is. What do infographics do? How do they work? What makes a really good infographic?

An infographic is a way of briefly giving information on a topic by using pictures and information that are interesting to the reader and catch their attention. Infographics are used to either raise awareness of something or to give you brief information on a topic. A really good infogrphic is short, sweet, and to the point. Hehe, poop!

For Homecoming weekend I did many things. Friday I went to a friends house and had pizza then went to the game with them, where we destroyed South West. Saturday, I went to take pictures at 5:15. Then we went to Bravos with my date, another couple, and one of out friends. It is good Italian food. Then we went to the dance. After that we went to an after party at my house where we just hung out and ate candy along with my sister.  Then my friend Grant stayed over and I dominated him in Call of Duty Ghosts. Sunday, I woke up, ate, watched a show, fell asleep on my rug.

Imagine Mr. Bacon has asked you to suggest one way of improving Blue Valley High School to make it a better place for students. Think about the changes that are needed at your school. Pick one change you feel would really make a difference and explain what it is and why you'd make the change.

I believe that we should add more parking lots. This change is currently underway. Some of the Juniors this year almost didn't get a parking spot. Only ten sophomores are able to park this year. The reason I think that this should be fixed because we are allowed to drive to school as a sophomore.

What are your favorite apps on your phone or tablet? Why?

My favorite apps on my phone are Tabs, Flow, and Clock. Clock is the app that I use to set my alarms, use my stopwatch, that kind of stuff. It isn't necessarily a fun app, but it is very helpful to me. Flow is a game where you try to connect all the dots to each other in a certain design so that all the lines connect without touching others and filling in all the spaces. It is like one big logic puzzle. Last, but not least, is the app Tabs. Tabs is an app where I can look up a song and it will give me all the words to it with the chord letter over the top of it. I play piano, that's why I want the chords. So I can literally learn how to play my favorite music in literally less than 30 seconds.

Now that you've been in Emerging Technology for several weeks... what do you think? Do you think the web tools (Drive, Evernote, Bubbl, etc.) are helpful to you? Do you think they will be helpful throughout high school or even college? Explain.

I think that Emerging Technology is a lot of work. I do believe that those tools are helpful  to me because it helps me to organize myself and it helps me to further understand the content in my paper. I do think they could be helpful throughout high school and college for the reasons that I have just stated. They can keep my thoughts organized and it helps me further understand the content.

Blog Post of the Day:
Do you enjoy writing? When do you enjoy it? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why do you think the ability to write is so important no matter what kind of writing it is? Give an example that you enjoyed writing or hated writing. Why?

I enjoy writing sometimes, I like getting to write about what's on my mind or what is going on in my life. So basically just "free writing". The ability to write is, arguably, very important because it is our biggest form of communication during this time. It is within books and also all over the internet. Writing is also very important because it is the most efficient way to keep records and information of things that happen in the world. Writing is important no matter what kind it is because it can help us get things off of our minds, it can increase our intelligence, and it can help us more thoroughly understand the thing that we are writing about. I have enjoyed writing this year in English because we are supposed to write about what is going on in our lives, what type of person we are, etc...

Reflect on this quote. Give an example of a time in your life that this might have been the case.

I believe that this quote is very true. The quote itself may be a little confusing at first, but if you read through it a couple of times it's easy to understand. An example of when this case might have been true is when I wasn't very prepared for a test at the beginning of the year and then i got a bad grade on it.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

I had a very casual weekend. Friday I went to the football game and then hung out with some of my friends at their house. On Saturday I worked with my "band", took a nap, and hung out with my friend Bradley at a carnival type thing. Sunday was my more exciting day. The new Destiny game came out and I have wanted to get it for awhile. So Sunday I made a deal with my Mom that if I took everything out of the garage, sweeped the garage, then put it all back in a more organized way then she would get it for me.So I did, it was a lot of work! It was somehow fun in the end though, and it was worth it.

What is the importance of research? Why do you need to know how to research? What have you learned in high school about researching topics and finding quality resources? Have you had a helpful teacher that has taught you to research? Explain.

Research is very important. Research helps us to understand how things work, give us background information, help us understand, look from a new perspective, etc... You need to know how to research in life because you will come across points in your life where you will need to research, whether it be for a school project or just how to make chicken. So far in high school I have learned an easier way to research, through evernote. Evernote makes research a whole lot easier than before. I have had a helpful teacher to help me with that because a teacher taught me about evernote.

For my global issue in Emerging Technology I have chosen lung cancer. I have begun researching the issue and you can find my research questions here.

Kids these days! They are always on their phones. They should try to pay more attention to the life going on around them.  I understand that social media and all that is a lot of fun, it's cool, and it's important. but that doesn't mean that you have to always be doing something on it. I see kids on their phones when they are hanging with their friends, with their grandparents, with their parents, etc... Just try to have some respect to the people around you.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about the global issue you selected. What do you already know about the issue? What are you looking forward to learning about it? Explain.

I chose lung cancer for my topic. The causes of lung cancer are old age, radiation, and the wearing down of your bodies cells. The effects of cancer are black spots on the body, death, loss of function. etc... It can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle and taking out the cancerous cells before they can spread through the rest of the body. I know that cancer is a very big topic, it is a very common disease, and it is very bad. I have always wanted to learn about cancer, this project is a good opportunity to do so. My family has a history with skin cancer, which I know isn't lung cancer, but I wanted to do my topic as cancer and to do so I had to choose a branch of cancer. I don’t know anything more about the topic, that's why I chose to research it.

Yesterday I asked your to "think differently" and push yourself to be uncommon with your PSA project using Google Slides. Why do you think I asked you to do that? What is the point? Why not just use bullets and headers? Explain.

You asked us to do this so that we would be creative, our presentation would be unique, and so that you can learn more about the type of person that we are. It helps us to grow as a person. You asked us not to use bullets or headers because you aren't thinking differently when you use them, they are boring and bland, and it doesn't help the person watching to understand the presentation (keeps them focused in on the presentation).

Tell me all about your Labor Day weekend. What did you do? Include photos!

I had a very fun end exciting labor day. On Friday I had my first high school soccer game. We lost, which stinks, but I thought we played really well considering the fact that we played the best team that we will play this year. Saturday was a pretty simple day for me, I rested and worked out, not much to it. Sunday was probably the most exciting day for me. My cities professional women's soccer team was in the championship. It was a very big deal for my family because my dad owns and runs the team. We had a medium sized party for people to watch the game. We ended up winning the championship! It was awesome. We celebrated all night long. I had a very good labor day weekend.

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

I don't know how it is for you, but this article sends me some mixed emotions, part of that might have to do with the fact that I am a teenager. I feel that the message that he is trying to convey is a good one, but I also disagree with some of the things that he said in it and I believe that he may have been a little too harsh. I do believe that we, teenagers, do need to start growing up. I don't believe that we should let go of the child inside of you. I believe that to live a happy life, you always need to have a little bit of that "childness". I also agree that teenagers need to work harder. We do need to develope more of a sense of responsibility. I do not think that I can completely stand next to his words of wisdom. He is too harsh with what he said and he seems that he is very angry at teenagers and maybe even at the world. It seems that the child inside him has gotten the better of his kempt up anger.

What is a Public Service Announcement? If you don't know what it is, Google it. In your own words, now tell me what it is? What are they used for? Can you recall an example of a PSA you've seen before?

A public service announcement is an announcement given out to the public to inform them about something. They can raise awareness, inform you of issues, and even try to help your attitude towards something. I remember seeing a PSA about dogs and cats that needed to be saved. The people who set up the PSA were trying to get you to donate money to them to help keep them safe and healthy.

After watching the short clip of Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech what did you take away from his advice? What does this quote mean to you -"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use."

What I could take away from Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech is that to go far you have to work hard, that you should always try to get smarter, and that you are beautiful just the way you are. To me, the quote "Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use", means that in life you shouldn't just live life regularly, in life you're trying to influence life itself and help make life better for those in the future.
